PFE Project 2: Read Woke Challenge
Artifact 1: Native American Voices November Book Lists
I have included images of the three book lists I created as a part of York Public Library's "Read Woke Challenge". These represent the first official curated book lists I have ever completed professionally. In doing all three of these book lists, I had to research #ownvoices authors, find quality titles in each of the three list categories (picture books, elementary level, and young adult), and then cross-reference these with the York Public Library catalog. The staff also took suggestions for titles not currently in their collection and ordered them! Once I had the titles researched, I learned how to use the LibraryAware platform. This was also new for me and not very intuitive. I am proud of the work and learning these book lists represent.
Artifact 2: Native American Voices Book Talk
Once I had completed the above book lists, I worked on a book talk highlighting the titles from the Picture Book list. I taught myself how to upload and edit images in iMovie, add animations and effects, add a voiceover element, and add an introductory video segment. When I was asking the YPL staff to do a book talk, I asked if they had any specific suggestions and/or guidelines for me. I was told to keep my book talk to a minute and to not say anything that critiques or endorses any books. As there were several titles on this list, I was really struggling with the time limit. I made some last adjustments and decided to send my draft into two of the YPL team members, Barb and Kathleen, so they could take a look. It turns out the one minute time limit was for a book talk on a single title- not the whole list! They loved how this book talk came out and accepted it immediately.
